Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) also dominated the third free practice session at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, on a Friday truly full of action and twists: the reigning champion in fact remains in front despite a crash at speed at turn 5 , not even halfway through the session, which however left him with just a few laps under his belt compared to the 18 of his rivals.

The Kawasaki rider was three tenths faster than everyone else, starting from his pursuers Marco Melandri (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) and Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK): the Italian was the only one of the trio to have improved his fastest lap, but it wasn't enough to worry Rea.

Lorenzo Savadori (Milwaukee Aprilia) improved his times to be the fourth best of the day, ahead of his teammate Eugene Laverty and Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati).

Seventh time for Alex Lowes (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) who precedes Leon Camier (Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team) and the Spaniards Jordi Torres (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) and Xavi Fores (Barni Racing Team) to complete the top ten who enter directly to the second heat of Tissot-Superpole.

Disappointed Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha Official WorldSBK Team) was unable to improve on his best lap in FP1 during the day and will have to contest Superpole 1, together with the home riders Jake Gagne (Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team) fourteenth , wildcard Josh Herrin (Attack Performance Two Wheel Legal Yamaha), fifteenth, and PJ Jacobsen (TripleM Honda World Superbike Team) eighteenth.
