Despite finishing Friday's free practice session as the leader of the Geico US Round, which is being held at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, dominating the standings in all three sessions, Jonathan Rea is looking carefully at tomorrow (Saturday, ed.), aware of the fact that this track always requires the highest level of attention.

The Kawasaki rider's confidence was undermined by a fall on a bend in FP3: up to that point Rea had been very fast and constant, and perhaps it was an excess of confidence that made him make a mistake: he pushed too hard until he made the decisive mistake .

“I was really enjoying riding the bike. In fact this was the cause of the fall, I was pushing a lot, I had a lot of confidence and I found the limit! I'm happy that it happened today instead of tomorrow, which counts a lot" – he commented Jonathan Rhea – “It's just a shame to end the day with a crash, to be honest, because now I have to sleep on it,” adds the reigning champion.

Despite the short time on the track, Rea and the team had the opportunity to make some progress regarding the behavior of the ZX-10RR at Laguna Seca: “The team made a big change at the end of FP2, when it the red flag was displayed. The guys made a big change to the chassis and in the afternoon we had two or three laps to confirm that everything was right. I think I got about 10 laps together before I crashed. Up until that point we were fast and consistent."

“We understand that here the tires drop after a while, the traction on entry and also the front tire. So we just need to understand these things better tomorrow when they happen in the race,” says Rea.

The three-time champion also believes that tomorrow's Superpole could be more important than the others: “Grid positions are very important here in Laguna. Race 1 is one of the races you want to win, because you want to stay in front. Traffic is a big problem here, it's difficult to overtake and be clean due to the narrow trajectory."
