MotoGP Misano, Free Practice 1: Marquez in the lead, surprise Pirro, he is 3rd

MotoGP 2015 GP San Marino and Riviera di Rimini – Marc Marquez set the best time in the first free practice session of the MotoGP class at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, scene of the thirteenth stage of the season.

The reigning Honda champion stopped the clock at a time of 1:33.328, a time well below the one recorded in last year's free practice, also thanks to the new asphalt of the circuit.

Behind Marquez we find compatriot Jorge Lorenzo, trailing by just 94 thousandths and the first Ducati, not that of the officials Andrea Dovizioso and Andrea Iannone, but that of the tester Michele Pirro, here as a wild card. The driver from San Giovanni Rotondo put in a great performance, setting a time of 1:33.797.

Pirro preceded the Honda of Dani Pedrosa, his brand mate Andrea Dovizioso and Valentino Rossi, sixth with the Yamaha of Team Movistar. The world championship leader (four successes this year) suffers a gap from the top of 0.758 and precedes his team mates Pol Espargarò and Bradley Smith, riding the M1s of Team Tech 3. Closing the Top Ten are Cal Crutchlow (Honda LCR) and Andrea Iannone, riding the second Ducati GP15.

Thirteenth time for Danilo Petrucci, from this race astride the GP14.2, the bike that concluded the 2014 season with Dovizioso and Iannone and the same one used by his team-mate Yonny Hernandez.

Of note is the fall of Claudio Corti, with the bike even ending up over the protections, but with the rider from Como unharmed.
