Alex Marquez's Ducati of Team Gresini was third, with the Spaniard ahead of his brand mate Johann Zarco, who suffered a high-speed crash at turn 15, which was fortunately resolved without consequences for the Pramac Racing rider.

The Frenchman finished ahead of his Yamaha compatriot Fabio Quartararo, who runs with the handicap of the foot injured while jogging. For him, fracture of the big toe of his left foot, the one with the gear lever.

Luca Marini follows with the second Ducati Desmosedici GP of the Mooney VR46 Racing Team and Takaaki Nakagami with the Honda of Team LCR.

The winner of the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring Jorge Martin is eighth, ahead of Jack Miller's KTM and Aleix Espargarò's Aprilia RS-GP, which closes the Top Ten.

Pecco Bagnaia was out of the provisional Q2, having not resolved the braking problems presented at the start of the session. The reigning Ducati champion recorded the 12th time, 1.252s from the top, behind Brad Binder's KTM and ahead of Augusto Fernandez's GASGAS team (who crashed without consequences at the start of the session).

Followed by Fabio Di Giannantonio with the Ducati of Team Gresini, Miguel Oliveira with the Aprilia of Team RNF (who also crashed without consequences), Franco Morbidelli's Yamaha and the second official Ducati, that of Enea Bastianini, who also fell (at the curve 10) without having reported physical problems.

Far behind is Marc Marquez, who on the Honda Factory is only 21st, behind the Aprilia of tester Lorenzo Savadori and ahead of team-mate Iker Lecuona, who replaces the injured Joan Mir.

After the many crashes at the Sachsenring and giving up the German Grand Prix, Marquez said that he would not take unnecessary risks and at least in FP1 he followed this path.
