MotoGP 2015 GP Germany – The first free practice session of the MotoGP class German Grand Prix saw Marc Marquez excel. The reigning Honda champion stopped the clock with a time of 1'21.766, obtained on the twentieth of his twenty-one laps, with the asymmetric tire brought specifically for this track by Bridgestone.

Excellent start also for Valentino Rossi, who on the Team Movistar Yamaha is second, 0.336s behind Marquez. The rider from Pesaro precedes the real surprise of these FP1s, the British Scott Redding, riding the Honda Factory. The Team Marc VDS rider is just 65 thousandths behind the Yamaha champion and ahead of his brand mate Dani Pedrosa, 0.477s off the top.

Yonny Hernandez also did very well, taking the Ducati Desmosedici GP14.2 to fifth position and ahead of Andrea Dovizioso, with the latter on the track with aerodynamic innovations on his GP15.

Jorge Lorenzo struggles once again, finishing seventh, 0.679s behind compatriot Marc Marquez, but above all far from Valentino Rossi, his team-mate who precedes him in the championship by 10 points. Here Bridgestone once again brought the harder compound, the one that had slowed down the Majorcan at Assen, but to be honest also the same one that had seen him victorious at Mugello.

Uphill start for Andrea Iannone, only tenth. The Ducati rider is behind Aleix Espargarò's Suzuki (on the track with the new livery that recalls 30 years of the GSX-R) and Cal Crutchlow's Honda.

Fourteenth time for Team Pramac's Danilo Petrucci from Terni, while Alex de Angelis from San Marino with the Iodaracing ART is twenty-first and ahead of Jack Miller, Michael Laverty (riding in place of Marco Melandri, who terminated his contract with Aprilia) and at the Yamaha Open of Loris Baz and Claudio Corti from Como, who here replaces the injured Stefan Bradl.

Of note is Alvaro Bautista's fall in one of the most feared corners, the waterfall, one of three right-handers compared to ten left-handers. Fortunately, the Spaniard (who underwent surgery on his right arm after the Dutch GP to resolve the problem of compartment syndrome, the same operation carried out by Pedrosa, Barberà, Rins and Pol Espargarò) did not suffer any physical consequences, while the mechanics will have a lot to do do to fix his Aprilia RS-GP. Same fate for Yamaha compatriot Pol Espargarò, same curve and same consequences.

The best have not yet tried the blue band front tires specially brought for this circuit, they have opted for the Soft compound, I suppose because it is the first session, the track is not rubberized and they are trying to verify the setting and the feeling with more data layout and then compare the new Bridgestone fronts.

However, in what sense is the same compound as Mugello? At the standard front or at the rear?

The Standard front ones, I don't know if they are the same or similar, it could be that the Soft, Medium and Hard ones are similar, but on the rear, I don't think it's the same type of compound on both sides as it is an asymmetric one, which here at the Sachenring on the right side it only has 3 curves, so presumably they use a very soft compound on that side to keep temperatures high and have the best grip with only 3 curves.

At Mugello at least the asymmetric characteristics should be reversed, Mugello has 9 right corners and 6 left corners, while the Sachenring has 3 right corners and 10 left corners.

Perhaps on the one hand the hard compound is comparable, but with reversed sides on the two circuits, while on the other side the softer one, Mugello maintains a harder compound than the Sanchenring. It's a guess because then you have to take into consideration the different number of laps, given the fact that one circuit is longer and the other shorter and the cooling times between one corner and another.

However, apart from the long bend on the right, the Sachering has low stress curves on that side, so I presume they have a softer compound on one side compared to the Mugello on the rear.

Even though it's only the first tests, we can already see that Marquez is pushing hard and wants to do what Rossi did in Assen, that is, stay ahead of all the free practices.
This is what for now in this configuration with standard tires on the front seems to be going strongest not only in the single lap but also in terms of pace.

Rossi, Lorenzo and Pedrosa follow, who are not far from each other in terms of pace, but perhaps a bit further from Marquez.

We'll see what happens when they change and try the new Brdigestone fronts.

I don't think that Rossi is inferior to Marquez in terms of pace, on the contrary... and in any case these are the first free practices...

Marquez's pace is difficult to evaluate, but according to the latest races and free practices, he doesn't show his best for several consecutive laps, in fact he shoots one lap at Stoner and that's it, often following other riders or letting himself be overtaken. Rossi also avoided being followed by several riders today, slowing down here and there, but showing himself to be more constant like Lorenzo.

Marquez throws in some fast laps which are actually his pace, which is why you have to pay attention to those times, because those are his pace. Now they say the last attempt was made with the asymmetric, I wasn't able to understand it from the images, but if he had done it, putting the new compound so cold, and testing it already at that moment, it means that he worked harder faster than the others, so I think he's actually okay at the moment, at least as good as Rossi, then it depends on how things evolve. Last year he also dominated and overtook Pedrosa, so I think he will be fast with this tire configuration anyway, we'll see.

Ronnie, do you have any news on the ovulation calendar of the Yamaha and Honda umbrellas? The girls' mood can influence the drivers....:):):)

look at how much time Marquez has made with the asymmetric

I confirm! marc did it with the asymmetrical but leaves ronnie the glory of having his mental handjobs ;)

iambo are you sure it was already asymmetrical in the last attempt? I wasn't able to understand well from the images, the front seemed more white than blue, but maybe it was like light blue, maybe I've already used it, even in the starting test it wasn't easy to distinguish, but it didn't seem the band is blue.

The others had the Soft Rossi Lorenzo for sure, I think Pedrosa too.

    3. Ronnie said:

Yes, you are right, he already achieved the final time by trying the Asymmetrical.

“Marc Marquez has carried the momentum gained at Assen over to the Sachsenring, topping the timesheets in the first session of free practice for the MotoGP class, and getting under the race lap record already. Marquez took top spot with the soft front tire, then took the asymmetric out at the end of the session and improved his time even further.”

I saw the rehearsals live, sure given the band and even the commentators confirmed it
