Superbike Silverstone: Sykes leads Friday's free practice

It was Tom Sykes on the Kawasaki ZX-10R who set the best time in the first free practice sessions of the English weekend. Behind him Leon Camier, in great form with the Suzuki and Michel Fabrizio on the Aprilia RSV4 Red Devils.
Fourth and fifth place for the other two top Italians Davide Giugliano on the Aprilia of the Althea team and Marco Melandri on the BMW Goldbet, fresh from the announcement of its retirement.
To find the first Honda we must instead drop to sixth place with Jonathan Rea, ahead of the "ninja" of Loris Baz and the two official Noale teams of Eugene Laverty and Sylvain Guintoli.
Ayrton Badovini was tenth on the Ducati Alstare, while his colleague Carlos Checa was still quite far from the top, only fifteenth.
