Superbike, Monza: Tom Sykes “I entertained my Italian fans”
Only the rain could have stopped the British rider's efforts today
Tom Sykes he is elated after his first victory this year, his second riding the Kawasaki Ninja. The British driver, however, regrets the fact that his wonderful race only brought him half the points, as the race was suspended after half the scheduled laps. The pilot of the Verdona can however be satisfied, in just 8 laps he had given everyone 9 seconds, on a track at the limit of practicability.
“It's my second victory with Kawasaki and the first this year – Sykes said – It's a shame that it's only worth half the points, but in just eight laps we put on a good show and I think I entertained my Italian fans. It's my first podium in Monza and it arrived thanks to the excellent work done on my Ninja. The conditions were always terrible and I tried to stay out of the controversy and just focus on driving. As soon as the green light came on I immediately saw that I had a spectacular feeling and so I immediately managed to run away and I said to myself either I win now or never.. Every lap the bike felt better, the track conditions improved and I felt more and more confident"
