Superbike: Guintoli wins Race 1 and gets closer to the title

Controversy at Kawasaki with Loris Baz not leaving second position to Tom Sykes, third.

This time the dark faces are in Kawasaki: Sylvain Guintoli wins Race 1 at the Losail International Circuit and reduces the deficit on Sykes to just three points.
The gap could have been wider if Lori Baz had followed the team's orders to let her teammate pass in the final laps.

Under the podium, Baz responded piquedly to the horn players' questions, effectively aligning himself with the thoughts of Melandri from Magny Cours: he wants to help the team if necessary but Tom Sykes is capable of winning alone.
The good news for Kawasaki in this race comes practically only from the EVO class, in which David Salom became the first champion in history, finishing ahead of Niccolò Canepa.

The big obstacle, which all the drivers on the track had to deal with, was the deterioration of the tyres: Guintoli managed to lead the race with authority until the end also by virtue of the fact that his tires held up better than those of the opponents, Baz especially.

Overall, the race was fairly free of twists and turns, except for a lively one at the end when Guintoli managed to overtake Loris Baz with four laps to go, while Tom Sykes was the author of two great overtakings on Marco Melandri and Jonathan Rea to the lowest step of the podium.

We'll see what happens in what promises to be a heart-pounding Race 2: appointment at 20pm Italian time.
