Colin Edwards will start from the second row with the sixth fastest time in the inaugural GP of the 2009 world championship season to be held in Qatar, at Losail. The Texan driver of Team Monster Tech3 achieved the sixth best time with a time of 1.56.194. Edwards hoped to go even better but some problems slowed him down and caused him to miss out on the front row. He is however ready for the race and to do battle. The word is up to him.

“I'm reasonably happy with the second row, but I thought I could be in the top three. But even though I'm a veteran I'm still learning. I came here with a different set-up to the one we tested with in the winter to solve some problems with the front. The new setting is better, but I still have a few things to fine-tune. Valentino (Rossi, ed.) is going fast and Jorge (Lorenzo, ed.) too. I have made progress and feel I can go faster. The new qualifying format was still exciting. I kept three soft tires and did two laps on each, and each time I was faster but it wasn't enough to reach the front row. I can't wait to compete, I feel ready. Hats off to Stoner who seems like he's on another planet, but I'm ready for battle.”
