The riders of the MotoGP class took to the track for the first free practice session of the Spanish Grand Prix, the first European stage of the 2014 world championship, which sees reigning champion Marc Marquez, winner of the first three races held in Losail (Qatar), Austin (United States) and Termas de Rio Hondo (Argentina). This stage is much appreciated by the drivers, not only for the layout of the circuit, but also for the atmosphere, with a really warm audience (as well as the climate).

Aleix Espargarò set the best time in the first free practice session, riding the Forward Racing Yamaha Open. The Spaniard lapped in 1:39.357, placing his compatriot Jorge Lorenzo's Yamaha by 357 thousandths, which in turn precedes Marc Marquez's Honda by 135 thousandths.

The #93 is followed by team-mate Dani Pedrosa, winner here last year and who closes FP1 ahead of Valentino Rossi's Yamaha, fifth, 810 thousandths from the top.

The first Ducati is that of Andrea Dovizioso, seventh and sandwiched between the Hondas of Alvaro Bautista (Team Gresini) and Stefan Bradl (Team LCR). Good ninth time for Yonny Hernandez, riding the Team Pramac Ducati. His team-mate Andrea Iannone was twelfth and was the victim of a fall (without physical consequences) which occurred a few minutes before the checkered flag.

Michele Pirro, Ducati tester and present here as a wild card, is 13th while the battered Cal Crutchlow finished 18th. Twenty-second time instead for Danilo Petrucci from Terni, riding the Iodaracing ART.

…it's only FP1 but I would like to point out that the flying Pesaro takes more than 4,5 tenths from Jorghe… given that when he is in front of his teammate he is praised, I wanted to underline, for now, his clear inferiority…

hi fatman, do you agree with the tire dealer's "bet"?

…hi, H…I agree yes….I'll wait to tell the others, let's take them by surprise ahahahahah…keep in mind that at the end of 2015 maybe we'll get it out of our p@ll@!!!

I'd wait for Fatman, they're saving tires today, Marquez, Pedrosa and Rossi are working extremely hard on the race pace, Lorenzo, it's not clear he took shifts at Stoner, but it's likely that that is his pace.

However, they are slightly slower than last year, apart from Espargarò, however, in my opinion, the used tire has not been seen.

...in fact I'm waiting...I just wrote that so far your idol is at 4,5 tenths...if it had been the geriatrician in front of you you wouldn't have missed the opportunity to point it out...now it's the turn of the great fatman, that's all...

However, we will see, but Lorenzo is doing the right thing, in the sense that he is trying to get up front, the problem is that in my opinion Maruqez is not giving 100%, in fact perhaps as a pre-tactic he will continue to do laps with this tire today too in view of the race and will not show his true fastest lap until FP3 tomorrow morning when it will then become too late to work through qualifying and FP4 to catch up. I think Marq risks having them all lined up again in qualifying and perhaps even the race.
