Marc Marquez fractured his left hand while training with his mountain bike on the outskirts of Cervera. The reigning Honda champion underwent surgery this morning at the “Universitario Dexeus Hospital” in Barcelona, to treat the fracture of the fifth metacarpal of his left hand. The operation was carried out by Dr. Xavier Mir, who declared that the operation was successful. If the post-operative recovery goes as expected, the rider should be present for the Japanese Grand Prix, which will take place in ten days in Motegi.

After the surgery, Dr. Mir said: “We operated on Marc Marquez to treat a torsional fracture of the fifth metacarpal of his left hand. The operation consisted of a reduction and internal fixation of the bone, using compression screws and a neutralizing titanium plate with six holes. After insertion, a protective bandage was placed around the finger, supporting it with the adjacent finger. Marc will remain in hospital for 24 hours, and in 48 hours he will begin functional rehabilitation.”

We remember that on Sunday in Aragon the reigning MotoGP champion, after starting from pole, crashed during the second lap, one of the many, too many crashes this year.

Heck after Iannone even Marquez, these riders risk getting hurt more in training or off the track than while riding between 150 and 300km/h...

Very true. But don't tell Pedrosa! ;) Jokes aside, there are really a lot of world championship riders hurting themselves in training, especially doing motocross. Even a big player of Rossi's caliber fell for it. As far as Iannone is concerned, however, the left shoulder injury did not start off the track but when he fell in May at Mugello during the GP15 tests. Then, just to make sure he didn't miss anything, he thought it best to give it another tap, even falling while jogging. Now, I can also justify Marquez's broken hand with the mountain bike (it seems absurd, but sometimes it can be more b@stard than a motocross bike) but falling and hurting the wrong shoulder during a jog is crazy stuff!
