MotoGP – Upon returning from the Italian Grand Prix, the Petronas team rookie, Fabio Quartararo, underwent arm surgery in Barcelona to treat compartment syndrome.

On Tuesday morning the Frenchman underwent surgery at the Dexeus University Hospital, an operation that lasted about an hour and was performed by Dr. Xavier Mir and the ICATME Traumatology department. Quartararo will remain under observation until Wednesday, then he will begin physiotherapy, during which it will be decided whether to take part in the Catalan GP scheduled for 14 to 16 June.

The operation was not urgent, but the efforts he has undergone in the last period, since he landed in MotoGP, have begun to create problems. To prevent the situation from worsening, it was decided to bring forward the timing.

The Dr. Mir said: “Yesterday Fabio came for a consultation and we did an MRI, which confirmed that he was suffering from compartment syndrome in his right forearm flexors. Once this diagnosis was made, we decided to release the flexor muscles by opening the compression. Today's operation went well; Fabio will now undergo a treatment program to prevent inflammation and will remain in hospital for 24 hours. In a couple of days he will start physiotherapy and I hope he will be able to race at the Catalan GP."

Fabio Quartararo added: “It is an operation that we had not previously planned, but which we decided to carry forward after discussions with Dr. Xavier Mir after the Italian GP. The conditions I experienced last Sunday were not normal and alerted us to the possibility of an arm problem. I preferred to deal with it now, to avoid surprises in the future and forget about it for the rest of the season. It was a short operation and often performed on many pilots, and was done by an expert on the subject. I want to thank Dr. Mir and his team for their availability and their work. I can't wait for the Catalan GP next week! ”
