MotoGP – Estoril Free Practice 2 – Lorenzo precedes Hayden and Rossi
With the track drying out, Jorge Lorenzo set the fastest time in the second free practice session of the Portuguese Grand Prix at the Estoril circuit. The world champion, who was left behind when the track was wet by rain, was able to recover to obtain a time of 1'48.522, just over 1 tenth better than Nicky Hayden, who was surprised in these tests with his Ducati.
In third position is Valentino Rossi, fast both in the wet and on a damp track, so much so that he is only 3 tenths behind his Yamaha teammate. He had no rivals in the first part of the session with Casey Stoner, who only managed to do better than fourth in the final half of the session, half a second behind Lorenzo.
Next in the rankings is Ben Spies who debuts in Estoril although 1 seconds from the top. The 1 Superbike champion preceded Marco Melandri, Randy De Puniet and Marco Simoncelli, while Andrea Dovizioso was ninth due to a fall.
Loris Capirossi was tenth, Dani Pedrosa returned thirteenth, Colin Edwards and Alvaro Bautista also crashed, penultimate ahead of Carlos Checa on his debut with the ex-Kallio Ducati Pramac.
