New world champion Pol Espargarò achieved the best time in the first free practice session of the Moto2 class in Valencia. The next Yamaha MotoGP rider in fact stopped the clock at a time of 1:35.691, a time of only 80 thousandths better than that set by his team-mate Esteve Rabat, who crashed at the end of the session without suffering any physical consequences.

Third time for the Swiss Thomas Luthi. The Team Interwetten rider who set a personal best time of 1:35.978 is ahead of the San Marino Alex de Angelis (who will still race in Moto2 next year with Team Tasca Racing) and the Roman Simone Corsi, who will instead continue with the Team Forward.

Sixth time for Mika Kallio, seventh for Jordi Torres, eighth for Nico Terol and ninth for the Frenchman Johann Zarco, who will be riding the Team Catheram Moto2 next year. Julian Simon closes the Top Ten, while Mattia Pasini finishes thirteenth. Twenty-seventh time instead for Franco Morbidelli, who also races here with Team Gresini's Moto2.
