Moto2 Motegi, Qualifying: Pole position goes to Mika Kallio, Corsi excellent fourth
The Finnish driver preceded Simeon and Zarco, Mattia Pasini tenth
Mika Kallio took pole position at the Japanese Grand Prix (his first pole in Moto2), the scene of the penultimate stage of the world championship, which will take place tomorrow at the Twin Ring in Motegi.
The Finnish centaur who lapped in 2:01.248 got the better of the Belgian Xavier Simeon and the Frenchman Johann Zarco, riding the Suter of the Came Iodaracing Team. The two are separated by 204 and 236 thousandths respectively and tomorrow they will share the front row with Kallio.
Excellent qualifying for Simone Corsi from Rome, who competed for pole for a long time and ultimately finished fourth. The Team Forward driver set his best time at 2:01.501, which earned him first place on the second row. Behind him Rafid Topan Sucipto riding the Speed Up of the QMMF Racing Team and Esteve Rabat, rider of Team Pons.
Seventh time for world ranking leader Pol Espargarò, who keeps Scott Redding at a safe distance, returning here after fracturing his wrist in qualifying at Phillip Island and fifteenth today. However, the British rider has shown a great desire to try and racing in his conditions is not at all easy.
Mattia Pasini also did quite well, tenth, while the San Marino Alex de Angelis is far away, twenty-second at 2.178 from the top. Twenty-ninth is Franco Morbidelli, here riding the Suter of Team Gresini in place of the injured Thitipong Warokorn.
