Difficult conditions on the track for the Moto2 riders. In fact, the Spanish GP is held on a very humid track but at the start the rain stopped falling: all the drivers, however, are on rain tyres.

At the ready start of the race, Yuki Takahashi started very well from second place followed by poleman Stefan Bradl. The Japanese immediately makes a mistake and is passed by Bradley Smith, while Luthi takes second and Cluzel overtakes Bradl. Marquez is currently tenth, while Iannone starts well and is already ninth. The surprise of the first lap, however, is Simone Corsi: the Italian overtakes numerous riders and is third in pursuit of Luthi and Smith. In the meantime, an early start for Alex De Angelis who will have to do a ride through in the pit lane.

On the second lap, a beautiful overtaking by Corsi on Luthi and Smith, and thus the Roman takes the lead of the race. Andrea Iannone is fifth ahead of the chasing group, and is pushing to catch Yuki Takahashi. Up front there seems to be a challenge between Corsi and Luthi, with the Swiss not giving up on the Italian. The two take some bad turns, and both risk a lot, but their positions remain stable. However, with 21 laps to go, Luthi passes Corsi and seems to have more of a margin over his pursuers. In the meantime, Takahashi and Iannone are also added to the leading trio. And it is in fact the Italian who makes a series of overtaking moves, going from 5th to 2nd in a single lap. But Corsi doesn't seem to like it, and the two go wild on the track, even coming into contact.

With 17 laps to go, the race ended due to Takahashi falling. Shortly after, a twist in seventh place: Cluzel loses control of his bike and hits Marquez head-on. Both fall into the gravel, with the Spaniard on the ground in pain, but fortunately neither of them suffers any physical consequences. Meanwhile up front Iannone definitively catches up with Luthi, while Simone Corsi is third. With twelve laps to go, the Italian passes the Swiss on the pit straight and tries to get away, placing a second in a single lap. Meanwhile, the rain begins to fall heavily on the track again.

Nice challenge for fourth position between Stefan Bradl and Bradley Smith: the two staged a series of overtaking and counter-overtaking with 9 laps to go. Great race for Alex De Angelis: the San Marino driver, after the jump start and the following penalty, is stable in seventh position. Positive performance also for another Italian: after difficult qualifying, Mattia Pasini is 13th.

Truly incredible race for Andrea Iannone: the Italian, who started 11th, went on to win the Spanish GP in pouring rain, followed by Thomas Luthi and Simone Corsi in third position.
