Scott Redding was fastest in the first practice session on Friday in Estoril for the Moto2 class. The English rider, on the podium at Phillip Island in second place, stopped the clock at a time of 2'04.031 despite a crash at the end of practice where he suffered no consequences.

The English rider precedes Anthony West in the standings, always very fast in the wet with his MZ, and Kenan Sofuoglu, Supersport champion making his debut in Moto2 with the Suter which belonged to Tomizawa of the Technomag-CIP team.

Followed in the standings are Faubel, Talmacsi, Elias (crashed), Gadea, Simeon, Luthi and Roberto Rolfo in tenth position, first of the Italian riders in the standings.

Alex Baldolini was eighteenth, Phillip Island winner Alex De Angelis 19th, Ferruccio Lamborghini 26th, while Andrea Iannone, Claudio Corti, Raffaele De Rosa and Simone Corsi did not turn and preferred to stay in the pits.
