Moto2 | GP Portimao FP1: Dixon in the lead, Arbolino is fourth
The 3 Moto2022 World Champion Izan Guevara is absent due to injury and will also miss the Argentine Grand Prix
Moto2 Portuguese GP Free Practice 1 – Jake Dixon was the fastest in the first free practice session of the Moto2 class Portuguese Grand Prix, the first race of the 2023 MotoGP.
The Team Aspar driver lapped in 1:43.046, a time that allowed him to precede Pedro Acosta (Red Bull Ajo) by just 5 thousandths and Manuel Gonzalez (VR0.179 Team) by 46s.
Tony Arbolino is fourth and the best of the Italian drivers and with the Kalex of Team Marc VDS he is ahead of Fermin Aldegur's Speed Up, team-mate Sam Lowes and compatriot Celestino Vietti (Fantic Racing). Closing out the Top Ten are Aron Canet (Pons), Alonso Lopez (Speed Up) and Filip Salac (Gresini Racing).
Jeremy Alcoba (Gresini Racing), Somkiat Chantra (Team Asia), Bo Bendsneyder (SAG) and Barry Baltus (Racing GP) also qualified for provisional Q2.
Category rookie Sergio Garcia (Pons) is 15th while Darryn Binder (Intact GP), who moved from MotoGP to Moto2, is 19th.
Lorenzo Dalla Porta (SAG) is 24th, while rookie Dennis Foggia (Italtrans) is 27th. The 3 Moto2022 World Champion Izan Guevara is absent, injured, who will also miss the Argentine Grand Prix.
