Moto2 | Gp Austin FP1: Dixon in the lead, Arbolino is ninth
The Team Aspar rider preceded Chantra and Salac
Moto2 Gp Americas Austin Free Practice 1 – Jake Dixon was the fastest in the first free practice session of the Moto2 class Grand Prix of the Americas, the third race of the 2023 MotoGP championship, scheduled at COTA, Circuit of The Americas.
The Team Aspar driver, who lapped in 2:10.516, preceded Somkiat Chantra (Team Asia) by just 9 thousandths, with the Thai driver in turn ahead of Filip Salac by just 13 thousandths.
Fourth time for Pedro Acosta, with the Team Red Bull Ajo rider ahead of Alonso Lopez (SpeedUp), Aron Canet (Pons) and Barry Baltus (Racing GP).
Rounding out the Top Ten are Fermin Aldeguer (SpeedUp), our own Tony Arbolino (Marc VDS, fresh from the success of the Argentine GP, ed.) and Jeremy Alcoba (Gresini).
Sam Lowes (Marc VDS), Bo Bendsneyder (SAG), Manuel Gonzalez (VR2 MasterCamp) and Joe Roberts (Italtrans) also qualified for provisional Q46.
Fantic Racing rider Celestino Vietti is 15th, rookie Dennis Foggia (Italtrans) 17th and Lorenzo Dalla Porta (SAG) 24th.
The 2022 world champion of the Moto3 class Izan Guevara (GASGAS), making his debut after an injury which occurred shortly before the start of the season, is 28th.
