250 cc – Operated Andrea Dovizioso

Andrea Dovizioso flew to Barcelona yesterday to undergo a specific medical examination on his right forearm to understand the causes of the muscle hardening that prevented him from regularly competing in the Jerez and Assen races. Andrea suffers from forearm compartment syndrome. In practice, the hardening is due to the protective sheath of the muscle which is too small, hindering the natural expansion of the overtrained and oversized muscle due to the effort to contain the power of the motorbike.

Followed by the physiotherapist Francesco Chionne of the Clinica Mobile, Andrea today underwent surgery by the same team of doctors led by Professor Mir who, in June last year, had operated on Marco Melandri with excellent results for a similar problem. The operation consists in appropriately incising the fasciae in order to allow the expansion of the muscle. Recovery times are quite short and Andrea will be in perfect shape from the next Donington Park GP.
