Carlos Checa is eager to test his Desmosedici on the Laguna Seca circuit. Like his teammate, Carlos also raced on this track in 1993 and '94, also in 250, when he was still racing as a privateer, waiting to be discovered by an official team. The seventh place achieved in '94 was certainly a great help for his career.
“The last time I raced in Laguna I was just starting out in GP – recalls Checa – They were my first races outside Europe: extraordinary experiences, which left me with indelible memories. Laguna is so up-and-down that it looks like an asphalt motocross track: it will be interesting to ride there with the MotoGP, certainly not easy! Our bike is good now and we hope to be in good shape in America, us and the tires too. I'm really happy to race in Laguna again: I haven't been there for 11 years. After all this time it will be like arriving in a new place and it's always nice to do something different."

Checa regularly travels to Monterey to visit a long-time friend, former 500 World Champion Wayne Rainey but this year he has a new appointment on the diary. The Spaniard, together with Colin Edwards, will participate in a promotional event organized by DORNA on the Wednesday before the race: a "star-like" day in Hollywood! The conference with the American press in the morning will precede a visit to the Warner Bros studios, where the Ducati Marlboro Team rider will be able to watch behind the scenes of the remake of the film "The Poseidon Adventure" with Kurt Russell. To end the day, have lunch and meet some Hollywood VIPs at the Santa Monica airport.
