Bradley Smith was the fastest in the Friday morning practice session at Estoril, the penultimate round of the 2010 MotoGP. In pouring rain, which arrived towards the middle of the session, the Oxford rider stopped the clock at 2'00.148 only to then make a mistake in the last few minutes falling at the second corner at high speed without consequences.

Behind him, more than 2" behind, compatriot Danny Webb and Alberto Moncayo, followed by Randy Krummenacher and world championship leader Marc Marquez, fifth and first of the candidates for the title. Pol Espargaro, despite a crash, was eighth, while Nicolas Terol did not go higher than 10th.

Due to these climatic conditions only 12 pilots are within the qualifying time limit of 107% without any Italian pilots: 14th Savadori, 17th Marconi, 23rd Grotzkyj, 25th Tonucci, 26th Morciano, 30th Gabrielli.

Khairuddin, Kent and Martin also crashed during practice, both of whom got back on the bike a little later while trying to ride in the wet.
