Superbike: Superpole with Davide Giugliano record
In the front row we find Baz and Sykes. Guintoli will start fifth, Melandri only tenth.
The first night Superpole in history saw Davide Giugliano take first place on the grid for the final two races of the 2014 season, scheduled for tomorrow evening at the Losail International Circuit.
The Roman driver stopped the clocks at a time of 1'57.033, which earned him the new best lap on the Qatari track.
For Giugliano it is the second pole position of the season, the third of his career. The two Kawasaki Racing Team riders Loris Baz and Tom Sykes complete the front row, with the reigning world champion clearly improving compared to yesterday's subdued day. The excellent performance of the official Ducati team is further enhanced by the fourth place of Chaz Davies, who preceded Sylvain Guintoli (Aprilia Racing Team) and the Pata Honda pair made up of Leon Haslam and Jonathan Rea, the latter protagonist of a harmless slip at the end.
After making his way through Superpole 1, Marco Melandri (Aprilia Racing Team) finished in tenth place ahead of Eugene Laverty (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki) and Toni Elias (Red Devils Roma Aprilia). Alex Lowes (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki) also fell, eleventh ahead of David Salom (Kawasaki Racing Team), first place in the EVO category.
The finale of the first session of the Tissot-Superpole also saw the spectacular highside of Sylvain Barrier (BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike): the French rider is currently in the medical center for checks, but still remained conscious and managed to get to his feet.
