Superbikes | Round Jerez, Race1: Rea penalized
The reigning champion was relegated to fourth place following the accident with Lowes on the last lap
We said it: Jonathan Rea's (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) third place was the subject of heated controversy after Race1 of the Acerbis Spanish Round in Jerez de la Frontera.
Race Direction has in fact decided to penalize the reigning Champion for the controversial accident with Alex Lowes, who then fell following contact on the last lap of the race.
Rea loses the result obtained in Race 1, with third place going to Marco Melandri (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK), but not only that: the decision also has consequences on Sunday, given that it will force him to start from the last place of the lineup of the Tissot Superpole Race.
In this way, Alvaro Bautista (ARUBA.IT Racing – Ducati) will start from pole position (the traffic lights will go out at 11:00 local time), followed by Marco Melandri and Lowes, whose result was jeopardized in Race 1.
