The very bad bicycle accident that occurred on October 4th will force Roberto Rolfo to miss the last round of the Superbike World Championship in Portimao. The Kawasaki rider (Team Pedercini) had suffered an open fracture of the kneecap in his left knee. Rolfo immediately underwent emergency surgery, he has the say.

“I collided downhill, almost head-on, with a school bus coming in the opposite direction and which was definitely in the middle of the road. I was definitely going between 40 and 50 km/h and so was he, so if you calculate that the impact was almost 90 km/h at zero I can consider myself really lucky to have only broken the kneecap on my left knee. The biggest problem at this post-operative moment is represented by the level of exposure of the fracture, for this reason in fact I am still under antibiotics and monitored by doctors, to avoid the risk of infection. In addition to the kneecap, which came out, the tibial plateau and all the ligaments could be seen which, fortunately, were not severed. If the results of the medical examinations are positive I will be able to start moving the knee from next week, at the moment the wound is too fresh. However, as far as the actual recovery is concerned, there is talk of being good for December, in this case everything depends on the injury because it is the only one that could prolong the rehabilitation. I'm sorry about the Portimao race, I haven't raced on that track for years and I would certainly have enjoyed riding the ups and downs of the track again.”
