Superbike: Rea is the fastest in the first free practice session at Laguna Seca
At Madza Raceway the Kawasaki rider precedes his teammate Sykes, Chaz Davies and a surprising Canepa
The Geico US Round has officially started with the first free practice session and already the standings leader, Jonathan Rea, immediately makes it clear that he wants to break the taboo that has never seen him among the winners here in California.
We remind you that only the production-derived class will compete this weekend: with Supersport and Superstock the appointment is in Sepang on August 2nd.
Scorching heat and a sandy track as usual for the protagonists of these first free practices: with a time of 1m24.239 the Kawasaki rider precedes his teammate Tom Sykes and the Ducati rider Chaz Davies, respectively one and a half tenths behind , and by just over two tenths.
The fourth time set by Niccolò Canepa was surprising, with Davide Giugliano immediately behind with the fifth time.
The surprises are not over because with the seventh fastest time we find Ayrton Badovini and especially Randy de Puniet, given the far from successful performances up to this point of the season, closing the top ten of the first free practice session.
Among them we find Sylvain Guintoli and Leon Haslam, with their team mates in difficulty who are unable to go beyond eleventh and fourteenth place: for him, however, the difficulties are multiplied, given that they have never raced on this track.
It's only the first free practices, it's too early to make predictions, but if we have to go too far we can say that the Ninja still seems like the bike to beat this weekend: we'll see what happens and we hope for exciting races like last edition.
Appointment at midnight, Italian time, with the second round of free practice, valid for access to tomorrow's Tissot-Superpole.
