Superbike: Rea closes the Fassi French Round with a double
Davies and Sykes complete the podium. The Welshman increases his advantage for the vice-champion title
When a rider is able to win on the same day, on the same track, in both dry and wet conditions, it means that he is faced with a great champion, on a great bike.
With the double scored today at Magny-Cours, Jonatahn Rea demonstrates, if proof were still needed, that he deserves the world title won two weeks ago in Jerez.
This is the fifth double of the season for the Kawasaki rider, which also means 22 podiums in the season tied with Troy Bayliss, a legend, with two races still to go.
The Fassi French Round was therefore yet another chapter in the dominance put on the track this year by Kawasaki and Rea, a combination that no one would have ever expected to be so successful at the beginning of the year.
Back to race 2, the race saw a three-way battle between Rea, Chaz Davies and Tom Sykes who completed the podium in second and third position and will compete for the vice-champion title in Qatar in two weeks' time.
Rea overcame his opponents' resistance at the end, crossing the finish line with an almost three-second lead over the Welshman and a six and a half second margin over his teammate.
Behind the top 3, pole man Leon Haslam and Michael van der Mark had their own personal battle, with the Dutchman able to take fourth position from his opponent with two laps to go.
Behind them, Sylvain Guintoli finished sixth in front of the home crowd.
Seventh position for Niccolò Canepa (Althea Racing), preceding the dueling Jordi Torres (Aprilia Racing Team – Red Devils) and Luca Scassa (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati SBK Team) and Alex Lowes (Voltcom Crescent Suzuki), who completed the top 10.
Next meeting from 16 to 18 October in Losail, Qatar, for the last round of 2015.
