The WorldSuperbike regulations have always provided for sanctions in the event of cuts at the chicane: normally during free practice and qualifying, if the riders make a mistake at the chicane of the Variante Alta they must return to the track in complete safety, therefore moderating their speed, so as not to interfere with the laps faster than their opponents, and will see their lap time invalidated.
Again for a safety issue, once a driver has left the track in the same chicane, he must pass through the escape route.

These rules, however, undergo changes on the occasion of the Motul Italian Round at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, one of the most technical and fastest tracks on the calendar: here, once the driver enters the chicane area he must return to the track at the same time way: it will then be analyzed whether he obtained an advantage or not from the maneuver.

In a procedure similar to that of the chicane of the Variante Bassa, the driver must also slow down and pass through the escape route: once he has reached the second white line on the asphalt, he will encounter a marshal holding a red flag and will have to wait five seconds before returning to the track.
If this happens in the last lap of the race, the incident will be reviewed by race management.

The chicanes could therefore reserve some surprises during the weekend!
