Michel Fabrizio, after finishing the morning's free practice session in Monza in second place, further improved his performance by taking first position at the end of the first qualifying session, thanks to a time of 1'42.327. Michel also set the top speed today 334.8 km/h on the finishing straight, equaling the maximum speed record in the category set last year on this very track.

“I'm happy, after the bad luck I had in race 2 at Assen I recovered my motivation, I knew I could be fast and I'm happy to have demonstrated it on the track – said Michel Fabrizio – We started well already in the morning, we didn't make many changes to the bike as the set-up found in the Mugello test seems to work well on very different tracks. Now we just have to wait and see what the weather will be like tomorrow, even if the forecast calls for rain."
