World Superbike ranking leader Jonathan Rea had his first match point for the title in Sepang in the second race of the Pirelli Malaysian Round, but missed out on the world crown by 91 thousandths.

The battle for race success with compatriot Chaz Davies was in fact resolved at the finish line in favor of the Ducati rider, who had tried to get inside at the last corner and had come into contact with Rea.
No hard feelings, however, for the KRT rider, who now only needs six points to obtain the seal he has been looking for for seven seasons: we can undoubtedly hypothesize that this goal will arrive upon his return from the summer break, when the eni FIM Superbike World Championship returns to track in Jerez.

“I'm really happy after this positive weekend, which allows me to look forward to the summer break with high morale and the desire to get to Jerez” – he commented Sale – “Three laps from the end of race 2 Arturo, my mechanic, gave me a small secret signal, giving me the certainty that I could close the gap to Chaz. I overtook him cleanly and took the lead, but then contact came at the last corner. I don't blame him, I would have done the same, but at the same time I almost fell. I'm really happy because another victory and a second place arrived, as well as a nice haul of points. If I had won the title my wife probably wouldn't have spoken to me for a day or two as she stayed at home! I simply wanted a good weekend and I got it."
