The Sachsenring should continue to host the German round of the world championship, at least for 2012. This was reported by 'Free Presse' which indicates that an agreement to maintain the race is imminent, even if official confirmations are still lacking. Sachsenring Management GmbH (SRM) is expected to take over from ADAC Sachsen (which withdrew in September).

In recent weeks there had been intense negotiations between the Munich ADAC, the state government of Saxony and representatives of the local authorities with the aim of maintaining the Grand Prix. The race attracts thousands of fans who in 2011 had more than 230.000 spectators. Among other things, the event brings in around 25 million euros in revenue for the region, a figure it cannot afford to lose.
