MotoGP Test Brno: Yamaha plays the "last aerodynamic card".

If this hull is approved, the house of the three tuning forks will no longer be able to offer updates

MotoGP Test Brno Yamaha – Over the weekend of the Czech Republic Grand Prix, the most awaited event was the debut of the new fairing brought to the track by Ducati. An event that left many stunned, due to the unusual shapes designed by Gigi Dall'Igna. Over the weekend, the new Honda and Aprilia fairings were also revealed, clearly taking a backseat given their more classic and less intrusive shapes.

In the tests currently taking place in Brno (, here the morning report), it was Yamaha's turn to reveal a new fairing. In theory, the house of the three tuning forks had already approved a "winged" hull at the beginning of the season, so in this case it is an update. As Ducati's chief engineer, Dall'Igna, explained to us (in an exclusive interview that you can read , here), and as written in the regulation, during the season it is possible to homologate an updated hull, but giving up the "classic" one. To be clear, the “clean” one.

In fact, therefore, Yamaha, always in the event that the new fairing satisfies the riders, will reach the maximum limit of homologable fairings during the season, as it will no longer be able to develop others.

The debut on the track of the new fairing, however, is no coincidence, the next event will be the Austrian Grand Prix, a circuit where aerodynamic load is very important.

We will therefore have to wait for the first feedback from Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales before we can know whether the new fairing will be homologated or not.

Returning to a general technical analysis of the new hull, it is possible to see how the number of elements in the bellies has increased, and brought to 4. Essentially the shape remains very similar to the previous one, but slightly wider. The most interesting part is in the fairing. The shape is reminiscent of the one already brought to the track by KTM, but with some interesting changes. A sort of small channel was created at the end of the dome and a curved shape in the highest part of the dome; probably to reduce the drag of the same, given that already generated by the inclined part below. It will be essential for Yamaha to generate as little resistance as possible, given the top speed which is already not very high.
