MotoGP Sepang, Free Practice 2: Session "ruined" by the weather, Silva the fastest, the big names in the pits
Of the officials on track only the two Ducatis of Rossi and Hayden
The second free practice session of theMalaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix” MotoGP class (sixteenth and third last stage of the 2012 world championship) was characterized by the weather. In fact, eight minutes from the end of the Moto3 class the rain fell, which effectively closed the session of the newborn class that replaced the 125cc and therefore, the start of the Free Practice 2 of the premier class also began with wet asphalt and riders on the track with rain tyres.
Unfortunately in the end it was a wasted session and many preferred not to take unnecessary risks (and save the engines) in view of the third free practice session and tomorrow's qualifying. Among those who did not take to the track worth mentioning were the two HRC riders Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa, the two Yamaha officials Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies and the two Team Tech 3 riders Andrea Dovizioso and Cal Crutchlow.
Among those who instead wanted to ride with rain tires but partly dry asphalt, the fastest was Ivan Silva, with the Kawasaki-powered BQR. The Spanish driver did better than Pirro, De Puniet and Rolfo, all on CRT. Followed by Abraham, Bautista, Rossi, Espargarò, Hayden, Ellison, Bradl and Barberà.
This morning however it got serious and the fastest was Dani Pedrosa who closed the session ahead of Casey Stoner and world championship leader Jorge Lorenzo. The three were the only ones to lap under the 2:02 mark and although with only a few laps completed, Stoner had shown that he was in better shape than in Motegi.
