There were many who wrote a message to Valentino Rossi after he announced his withdrawal from MotoGP at the end of the season. Among many, even Max Biaggi, historic opponent of the nine-time world champion, wanted to write something to what he himself defined as the "Great Adversary".

Statements Max Biaggi, Valentino Rossi retirement

“Today I think it is right to share with you my thoughts on Valentino's retirement. I know that today was a difficult moment for him, because unfortunately I already experienced it a few years ago. An athlete would never want to experience the day of retirement and the history of sport is full of examples of this type. I too tormented myself a lot before choosing to stop running, but then it came naturally to me to decide. Valentino and I have animated one of the best rivalries in motorcycling, without ever pretending to be friends. We were simply two bitter rivals, fighting to achieve the same goal. I think that's why it was naturally impossible to be friends. When you are a winner you don't accept finishing second and when it happens you immediately prepare the next battle to lead. Personally I am very nostalgic for those moments!
Guys, I understand that for you who have been following me all my life it can be destabilizing to hear these words, but believe me, over the course of a lifetime, points of view change.
Today I'm a father, I ride a motorbike for fun, I see guys in my team racing and when I think of the skirmishes between me and Vale I get nostalgic and feel happy to have lived those moments with that profound intensity! I want to wish a Good Life to one of my Great Adversaries with the thought that perhaps one day we can find ourselves together smiling in the memory of those moments."
