Shane Byrne and Jeremy McWilliams concluded the first round of official testing, under the pouring rain of the Dutch circuit of Assen, in 13th (2'16"869) and 19th (2'17"617) position respectively.
The two MS Aprilia Racing riders proved to be extremely combative in less than ideal weather conditions. The temperature, constantly around 13°-14° with gusts of wind, did not help the work of the team men and the riders on the track.

Shane Byrne's debut on the historic Dutch track was extremely positive as, during the morning's free practice, he set the fourth fastest time on his debut at Assen.

“I was fast during free practice – said Shane – with a good average on a difficult circuit to learn, especially with the rain. Unfortunately, during the official tests I fell, fortunately without consequences. However, I hope it continues to rain, I feel comfortable in this condition.”

Jeremy McWilliams, back in the saddle after the stop in Barcelona due to the thoracic/lumbar injury suffered during the warm up of the Catalunya GP, worked immediately in preparation for the race despite the pouring rain.

“The track conditions – said Jeremy – were extremely variable. When the rain was heavy, it was almost impossible to see the track. Furthermore, on this track it is difficult to choose tires in normal conditions due to its mixed conformation and therefore I immediately worked to find tires to use in the race if we were to find conditions similar to today, and I think I have found them. I certainly didn't need to look for another crash and so I didn't force it, tomorrow I will continue work on the set-up based on the weather we find."
