MotoGP – Preview Estoril – Circuit data
The Estoril circuit is a particular track, with very fast and very slow points, a one kilometer straight at over 300 kilometers per hour and a very slow chicane which, together with the Laguna Seca Corkscrew, is one of the most complicated sections of the world championship. The track overall has the lowest average speed on the MotoGP calendar and the contrast between its slow and fast points requires careful compromise in chassis settings. The asphalt has always been one of the biggest worries for riders, often slippery and in any case very undulating. Finally, given that the runway is located close to the Atlantic Ocean, wind is often a variable to deal with. This year the Portuguese track hosts the GP for the eleventh time despite twelve Portuguese GPs having been held so far. In fact, in 1987 and 1988 the race took place in Spain as Estoril could not offer the necessary safety standards.
