MotoGP Phillip Island, Warm Up: Stoner in the lead, bad fall for Lorenzo
Final adjustments for the riders of the MotoGP class at Phillip Island, theater of the Australian Grand Prix, sixteenth round of the 2011 world championship. With a strong wind brushing the track (25 km/h) and an asphalt temperature close to 15 degrees , the fastest of the warm up was once again the world leader Casey Stoner. The Australian Repsol Honda Team rider stopped the clock at a time of 1'31"261, just 50 thousandths ahead of Jorge Lorenzo, who however fell violently to the ground at the end of the session and left his left hand in pain. A bad flight for the 2010 MotoGP champion which could complicate his race.
Returning to the timesheets we find Dani Pedrosa's Honda Repsol, third ahead of Valentino Rossi's Ducati, recovering from qualifying. The rider from Pesaro lapped in 1'32"220 (still a faster time than the one set in qualifying), placing himself behind his Honda compatriot Marco Simoncelli and team-mate Nicky Hayden.
Seventh is Randy De Puniet who with the Ducati of Team Pramac precedes the Suzuki of Alvaro Bautista and the Hondas of Andrea Dovizioso and Hiroshi Aoyama. Followed by Colin Edwards, Ben Spies, Cal Crutchlow, Loris Capirossi, Karel Abraham and Toni Elias.
