First place among the "humans" for Cal Crutchlow, who despite bronchitis and fever, finished fourth on the first day of free practice on the Phillip Island circuit; a good start that gives him hope for Sunday's race. The word is up to him.

“It was a good start to the weekend, and I'm happy considering how I was yesterday. The fever was very high yesterday, but the biggest problem is bronchitis which makes it difficult for me to breathe. Today I felt better and staying focused isn't a problem, but this track is so physical and demanding that it doesn't give you time to breathe. Plus with the wind you have to constantly fight with the bike, and this doesn't make things easier for me. Tonight I will go to be examined by the staff of the Clinica Mobile and tomorrow I hope to be well again.
I'm not 100% yet and my goal is to leave Australia by collecting some points. We can improve the bike because I lose a lot of time in the second half of the track; on this track the rear slides a lot and this is an area we need to work on for the rest of the weekend. The track also seems very slippery. It sucked last year too, but today I found it at least five times worse, the asphalt is cracked, but we're all in the same boat"
