The first day of free practice on the Australian circuit ends with a fifth time for Andrea Dovizioso, who stopped the clock at 1'31"458. The rider from Forlì already seems to be at a good point with the set up of the bike and hopes to improve further to be able to fight for the podium on Sunday.

“As always when we arrive at this magnificent circuit at this point of the year, there were classic Phillip Island conditions: it was quite cold and windy, but the positive thing is that, apart from a few minutes of rain, this morning we managed to ride on a dry track and concentrate on the bike's set up. We collected a lot of data today but it is clear that we still need some time to get closer to the top 3. My feeling with the bike is already quite good, but I want to gain a little more confidence on the front, which it's the main thing on this track because there are a lot of long, fast corners with very quick changes of direction, and you have to prepare the bike to have the right line out of the corners. If we can improve I'm sure we can be closer to fighting for the podium on Sunday."
