MotoGP – Phillip Island Day 1 – Colin Edwards "copy" Jorge Lorenzo

There is a little secret behind Colin Edwards' excellent start at Phillip Island. The Texan Yamaha rider who will team up with Ben Spies next year has in fact "copied" the setting that Jorge Lorenzo uses and which the former Superbike rider had not used since the tests in Malaysia. At first the change did not seem very effective, but after further adjustments “Texas Tornado” was able to close the time table in fifth position. The word is up to him.

“Today I went back to a geometry on the front that I hadn't tried since we were testing in Malaysia. Honestly, I asked what Jorge (Lorenzo) was using and they said it was the setup I used for the test in Malaysia. So, I thought I'd use it because I liked it in the testing phase. It's basically a small change, just a little more weight up front than what I've been running with most of the season. At first it didn't feel much better, but we played around with some settings and it felt better. This track is so fast that you have to do a very soft setup and that's what we did. And it felt a lot better, because once you have a stable bike, then it's fun. But if the bike is too stiff it's really difficult to ride. I have to thank my Team Tech 3, because in an hour we did a lot of work to get where we finished. My guys did an amazing job and we can still do better tomorrow, so I'm confident we can have a good weekend.”
