MotoGP Mugello, FP1: Ducati domination with Dovizioso and Pirro, Rossi finishes 15th
Five Ducatis in the Top Ten, with the Hondas of Marquez and Pedrosa behind
GP Mugello MotoGP Free Practice 1 – Valentino Rossi took to the track as scheduled (yesterday the visit and the OK from the doctors after the fall at the Cavallara cross-track, resulting in hospitalization) in the first free practice session of the MotoGP class at Mugello.
The Pesaro driver made three runs and when he returned to the pits he spoke to the doctor, indicating that everything was ok, with the only hint of pain on the right side of his chest.
At the end of the session, which saw Andrea Dovizioso's Ducati excel (1:47.394, below the circuit record) ahead of that of tester Michele Pirro, the Yamaha rider achieved the fifteenth time, 1.119s behind "Dovi". . The most important thing for Rossi was to "test" his body and from his movements on the bike, everything seems to be quite good.
Returning to the time rankings we find five Ducatis in the Top Ten, in addition to those of Dovizioso and Pirro, there are those of Hector Barberà, Jorge Lorenzo and Danilo Petrucci in fifth, sixth and seventh position respectively.
Maverick Vinales achieved the third time, Johann Zarco the fourth and Jonas Folger, fresh from his contract renewal with Team Tech3, the eighth. The Hondas of Marc Marquez and Cal Crutchlow close out the Top Ten. Eleventh time for the Suzuki of Andrea Iannone, who we remember at Mugello boasted a pole and two podiums in his time with the Ducati. Further back was Dani Pedrosa, who finished in thirteenth position.
