Perhaps more was expected from the Honda-powered KR211V at Motegi. In fact, the bike built by dad Kenny achieved only the 14th time with Kenny Roberts Jr. According to the American driver, the main cause of this performance is an annoying bouncing (the now famous chattering) at the front.
“In qualifying we had a problem with the front bouncing”, Kenny Roberts Jr. said. “The harder I went, the more the vibration increased. We fared slightly better as the problem eased. I think we had a "bad" day today but I think that by making a good start I can stay in the top ten."
