MotoGP Motegi: Overwhelming victory for Lorenzo, the world championship is still openMotoGP Motegi: Overwhelming victory for Lorenzo, the world championship is still open

A practically perfect Jorge Lorenzo dominated the Japanese Grand Prix in the MotoGP class, the penultimate stage of the 2013 world championship. The Majorcan, the only one to choose the soft tyre, immediately tried to escape, but was unable to put a large gap between himself and the Hondas officials of Marquez and Pedrosa. As the laps went by, his clean and effective driving made the difference and in the end he won at Honda, managing to keep the world championship open. Jorge has won four of the last six races and with this victory he surpasses Marquez in the number of victories this season, seven compared to the Honda rider's six.

He would have needed someone to stand between him and Marquez, but today Pedrosa was unable to keep up until the end and Valentino Rossi, his team-mate at Yamaha, made a double mistake in the initial stages of the race, when he was second. In the championship there are now 13 points behind Marquez and everything will be played out in Valencia. Of course, looking back, the two-time MotoGP world champion cannot help but regret the double fracture to his collarbone that caused him to lose so many points. The appointment is therefore in two weeks in Valencia, where Moto3 will also compete for the title, while the Moto2 title went to Pol Espargarò.

Race report

Seventeenth and penultimate stage of the 2013 season for the riders of the MotoGP class. It runs at the Twin Ring in Motegi, theater of the AirAsia Grand Prix Of Japan. Yesterday, in a qualifying session that lasted 75 minutes (all free practice sessions had been canceled due to poor visibility which did not allow the medical helicopter to take off) and held in the wet, reigning champion Jorge Lorenzo prevailed , who had set the best time of 1'53.471.

With the Majorcan on the front row, world championship leader Marc Marquez will start (who, let's remember, has an 18-point advantage over Lorenzo) and the surprising Nicky Hayden, third with the Ducati and in his penultimate race with the Borgo Panigale team (he will race with the Honda RCV1000R of Team Aspar).

Fourth time and first place on the second row for the second Honda of Team Repsol, that of Dani Pedrosa, who preceded our Valentino Rossi (Yamaha) and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati).
In the third row we find the Spaniard of Team Honda Gresini Alvaro Bautista, the German Stefan Bradl and the first CRT, the ART Aprilia of Aleix Espargarò.

Andrea Iannone is in difficulty, fifteenth on the Ducati of Team Pramac. The Abruzzese precedes his compatriot Danilo Petrucci on the Ioda Suter BMW, while the other two Italians with the CRTs are Luca Scassa twentieth and Claudio Corti twenty-first. Everything is ready, 24 laps to go for 115.224 km. The traffic lights go out, the fastest at the start is Lorenzo, who started ahead of Rossi, Marquez, Pedrosa and Bradl.

The Majorcan who was fitted with a soft tire attempted to escape and at the finish line passed Rossi, Marquez, Pedrosa, Bradl, Smith, Dovizioso Crutchlow, Bautista and Hayden. Rossi makes a mistake in braking, the Pesaro driver goes straight and the two Hondas of the internal team pass him.

The Pesaro rider seems to be having trouble with the brakes, even if for the moment he is trying to keep in the wake of Marquez and Pedrosa. Second pass, Lorenzo precedes Marquez Pedrosa, Bradl, Smith, Dovizioso, Crutchlow, Bautista and Hayden.

Another mistake for Valentino Rossi, still braking, but this time many positions were lost. The Yamaha rider from Pesaro is in fact back in fourteenth position. A real shame for Yamaha, who were counting on the help of the nine-time world champion to put someone between Lorenzo and the Hondas. Meanwhile, Luca Scassa withdraws due to a problem with his right footrest.

The first three made a gap, Bradl (who is fighting with Bautista) is over seven seconds further away, while Rossi recovered to move up to ninth position, immediately behind Andrea Dovizioso. Marquez could win the world championship already today, but he would have to put at least eight points between himself and Lorenzo. He should therefore win and hope that Pedrosa gets ahead of the reigning champion.

Having reached the halfway point of the race, Marquez becomes threatening, but Pedrosa doesn't give up either, who as mentioned could be the tipping point. Behind Bautista he is ahead of Bradl, Crutchlow, Smith, Rossi, Dovizioso and Hayden.

Meanwhile, Aleix Espargarò falls, fortunately without physical consequences. Previously the same fate had befallen our Claudio Corti, who however got back on the saddle. The pace of the first three is incredible, they consistently run at a pace of 46 minute and 47 minutes, only Bautista and Bradl (who are now far away) run below 26 minute and XNUMX minutes. However, Pedrosa doesn't seem to keep up with the pace of Lorenzo and Marquez in these last laps; the #XNUMX Honda is slightly behind, while Rossi is seventh but over seventeen seconds further away.

An extraordinary Lorenzo lowers the time again, turning to minute and 45! Marquez suffers the consequences as he makes a small mistake when braking and is now over a second behind. Lorenzo even laps Staring with six laps to go. A hammer from the Majorcan, who without the double collarbone injury would have been much further ahead in the championship. The dubbed ones seem to be able to play an important role. In Laverty's lapping the reigning champion actually lost some time and for the first time this year the CRTs seem to be an obstacle.

Last three laps of the race, Lorenzo continues to hammer, he could bring Yamaha back to victory at Honda, something that had already happened to him in 2009. His clean riding clashes with Marquez's braking, always on the curb and with the rear raised. Rossi meanwhile is sixth.

The last lap begins, Marquez has given up, but with second place he would still arrive in Valencia with a 13 point advantage over the Majorcan. Last corners, Lorenzo goes on to win the Japanese GP ahead of Marquez and Pedrosa. If the world championship is still open we owe it to the Yamaha rider, who dominated today!

I was waiting for this race (as already said in the post on Malaysia) to fully evaluate the qualities of the Yamaha. Motegi is a stop-and-go track where acceleration-brakes-chassis-engine is needed. Furthermore, Yamaha's starting SYSTEM is much superior to Honda, well done Lorenzo for knowing how to take full advantage of these qualities no matter how good he needs to be on a truly superior medium.
last but not least being able to use a soft tire for the race where everyone chose a hard one and the times were constant and without drops, in fact the best lap was the third to last. this is Yamaha, not the other one that some fans tend to discredit the bike in order to save Donald the cross rider.

today the scusiwedia page will be updated and enriched

greetings, a magnificent creature from Borgo Panigale is waiting for me in the garage.

stoner aside, without a competitive bike you can't win races!!!!
      not to mention the complaint…………..

In Mugello, the bike doesn't count for anything here, the Hondas were superior except that with a bad setting, we saw in the early stages of the race how Marquez easily got back under Lorenzo, he recovered 2 seconds from him in a few laps.

Honda remains superior, it's just that this year they lapped slower than last year, it took them longer to finish the race. Jorge has the merit of having done a great race by making the most of the vehicle he had, but already last year the Hondas with less advanced bikes and less advanced tires took 3 seconds less.

This means that not having been able to ride in the dry except this morning and with the track with less rubber caused him to lose several tenths per lap, while Jorge was able to exploit the limits of his bike much better by running a race at last year's, even a bit better perhaps.

The Honda perhaps remains the overall superior bike but the best rider rides an M1...and it's not Rossi...Jorge is giving riding lessons to everyone, he's the perfect rider...he seems to assimilate and improve all the strongest points of his opponents. .he demonstrated it by learning to respond to Stoner's Monstre laps last year at the ready and go (and he is the only one who manages to do so today)...he demonstrated that he has a head like the Rossi of the best times and impeccable race preparation , he immediately understood how to regulate someone like Marquez and has a consistency and clean driving never seen before...it's a shame about the injury in the middle of the season...he probably would have won the third title

      2. Ronnie said:

I agree with you about this Stonami77 Lorenzo is currently the best, and perhaps he is even better than Stoner in the sense that his consistency and his ability to do what Stoner did in the first laps of the race make him really strong, perhaps he's not flawless in qualifying, Stoner was stronger there I think, and perhaps we should also consider this when comparing him with Rossi. In my opinion, Rossi has improved from 2010 to today, it is Lorenzo who has improved the most, it may be that Rossi has dropped, but I think his preparation is even more demanding. In my opinion we also need to give Rossi some time to evaluate whether he can learn what Lorenzo does now or whether there really isn't any more. The Lorenzo of today didn't take a season to become so strong but 2 maybe 3 seasons and he is at the top of his form, Rossi rode very little in 2010 given the injuries and then rode a Ducati light years behind the leaders, second But if he's still hungry for victory and really wants to get to the top level, he can do it. If he instead gave up or gave up, well his performances will remain the same or even get worse.

      Again with this story….

Oh mama…. You really are watching a World Cup of your own!

No one has ever written that Yamaha is not competitive... On the contrary!!!!

If EVERYONE (even PEDROSA's "sports dad", you know that Pedrosa races in the Honda HRC team right?) the workers claim that Honda has an advantage, there must be a reason... Or not?

I repeat, even Puig admitted it a few days ago…

But this does not mean that Yamaha is not a competitive bike, but simply that Honda has a technical advantage!

You can also see it on TV... The way in which that bike is exploited, the way in which it oversteers to close corners, the clean braking that it has achieved in recent years (look at some races from 2/3 years ago...)...

Then obviously you will continue to write that he is a crazy horse, but if you look at Cal's Yamaha it will also seem like a crazy horse….

Much of the credit goes to Dovi if Honda has reached this point (statements from the boss)…

      1. bibo said:

it may be that Honda is better... but Yamaha has an interest in people believing this...
a bit like Rossi did, when he made people believe that the credit for his victories was all his..
half a second in the wrist...only he capable of driving with worn tires etc etc...
a… I forgot rabbit from the top hat….
        :-)))

        bibo

But what World Championship did you and Mugello see?

Read what Puig said a few days ago…..

  • bcs said:

This year almost all the races were really good... A World Championship like this hasn't happened in several years.

Great Lorenzo! What a race he did!!!!

Of course, as I wrote yesterday, he is the fastest of all to fix the bike, but this is not a symptom of "demerit", on the contrary...!!!!
Great Lorenzo and his entire team!

Marc… Once again I was impressed by his maturity, and the way he deals with critical situations (both on and off the track…). He is a PHENOMENON!

But... Who knows what he will be able to do next year, when he will have 3 of his own in the team, to the detriment of the 3 of "Stoner"... I have heard more than one voice claiming that on several occasions these 3 have helped Marc a lot...

It still remains a phenomenon, but if you have a team of expert and functional people behind you it's a great help...

Pedrosa... Too bad, it was his track, perhaps the weather conditions and the upheavals made him lose a bit of clarity...

Well done Bautista and VERY GOOD Bradl (still recovering from injury).

Rossi chapter... A 4th or 6th place, little changes, the game is over, and he remains too far from the leaders...

Ducati… Usual stuff, we knew… You recommend reading what Dovi has said in recent days…
And since the game is over now…

Why doesn't anyone criticize Dovi for the statements he makes? Who knows why...

Yet he says the exact same things as another driver….

Anyway... Nice race and nice world championship (shame about the rubbish done in Laguna), a final heated race awaits us, very heated!

    1. bcs said:

      I add.

Congratulations to Vettel for his 4th World Title!
      More talent!

Not everyone can win 4 titles at 26!

      Compliments!

      Ferrari WAKE UP!!!!!

    2. bcs said:

when I wrote: “..(shame about the rubbish done in Laguna)…”

I made the wrong race… I wanted to write PI (the last race). Error made due to haste, but anyway Laguna remains rubbish.... In other words, it's crap to leave her out of the World Cup!!!

where he inherited a motorbike coming from two years of developments requested by Rossi and Burgess,
they practically took away those characteristics that made it successful to make it drivable (according to them)

Rossi had inherited a motorbike that went very well with Stoner
the reason why the dovi is not criticized is this….

      1. bcs said:

        Yes, bibo... Of course...

Have you read what Dovi has said in recent weeks?

Well… Hayden declared that the Gp12 “is the best Ducati I have ridden” (at the time)… Ditto Barberà….

Who knows why ALL ex-Ducati riders (including STONER) ALWAYS complain about the same problems... Who knows...

I recommend seeing WHAT Preziosi wanted to bring to the track and what was brought during 2012…

        And read what Dovi declares…

And with this race number 46 is FOURTH in the world championship, i.e. the last with a good bike, but shouldn't he have won hands down? said by capirossi, pernat etc. etc. also from uccio, his dad, all the useless people from medaset, newsagents, business minders etc. etc. not to mention 99,99% of his fans.

meanwhile Lorenzo 7 (for the moment)
46 only 1 won in the Villa Arzilla match

Also in my opinion it is "overwhelming"... because it won at Honda and because it left abysmal gaps to the other Yamahas.... never was a title more apt

  • H954RR said:

I see more and more clearly three phenomena, three true champions always fast and in close combat with each other who leave a void behind and I see someone who, without any help as he has always had, gets the most out of his abilities as for what he would always have achieved in his entire entire career without. Then everyone adds their sums and believes what they want, but 45+1 is not and has never been up to being a champion with his abilities alone, the proof is the results of the last 4 years with equal treatment to all the others.

  • bibo said:

yes ok.. but you have to admit that the other Yamaha riders are a bit poor.....
