At the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli the MotoGP class riders took to the track for the first free practice session of the Aperol GP of San Marino and Riviera di Rimini.

Twenty-three degrees in the air and twenty-five on the asphalt for this forty-five minute session. The fastest was world championship leader Marc Marquez, who, despite never having ridden here with the MotoGP, immediately set a time of 1:34.476. A great start therefore for the #93 Honda, who preceded team-mate Dani Pedrosa by 222 thousandths, who is second in the world standings, 30 points behind Marquez.

Third time for Jorge Lorenzo, on track with Yamaha with the new seamless gearbox. The reigning champion suffers a gap of 426 thousandths from Marquez, while his team-mate Valentino Rossi is fourth at just over half a second. However, the seamless gearbox should not perform so much in terms of lap time, but rather in terms of long duration and therefore in the race.

Fifth and sixth times for the Hondas of Alvaro Bautista and Stefan Bradl, who precede the first Ducati, that of the American Nicky Hayden, in his last race with the Red in front of the Italian public.

Kentucki Kid is 0.916s behind Marquez, while Andrea Dovizioso follows him at 112 thousandths. Michele Pirro also had a good performance, as he lapped a lot here with the GP13. The tester, riding the Ducati LAB in the colors of Team Pramac, is in fact ninth and ahead of the first CRT, the ART Aprilia of Aleix Espargarò.

Cal Crutchlow did poorly, only eleventh with the Yamaha of Team Tech 3. The British rider precedes the CRT of Hector Barberà and team-mate Bradley Smith, while Andrea Iannone is eighteenth.

Our riders with the CRTs are Danilo Petrucci eighteenth and Claudio Corti nineteenth, respectively riding the Ioda Suter BMW of the Came Iodaracing Team and the FTR Kawasaki of the NGM Mobile Team.

how can it perform well for the race and not in the single lap??????????

It has been explained several times... even yesterday in the press conference... in practice not for long on the individual performance, but the bike moves less and in the long run puts less stress on the tires... so in the race it should (the conditional is a must ) be an advantage….

You have to make Bibo draw a picture..
By dint of insults to Rossi he lost mental elasticity.

Yes...how does he do it?? So on the spot it would seem like a contradiction, because if the seamless gearbox allows a gain in terms of total race time, it inevitably follows that...mysteries of modern motorcycling.

The gain on the single lap is there, but compared to the positive effects on the long distance it is small.

The new gearbox puts much less stress on the tires (for a series of reasons that you can find online without too many problems, furthermore there are various animations that demonstrate how it works).

The gear shift is much smoother than a traction gearbox and this leads to a series of considerations.

In general, the bike remains more stable, wastes less time, tires are less stressed for an advantage over long distances...

Mine is a very quick (and reductive) explanation, but to learn more about the topic look online….
