Kevin schwantz, the American MotoGP legend, filed a lawsuit against COTA, the company that manages the Austin circuit in Texas, for a dispute related to the rights to promote the MotoGP race which is trying to organize there in 2013.

As stated by MCN, the 1993 500cc World Champion claims that COTA is trying to exclude him from the deal to take the MotoGP championship there. Schwantz, through his company 3fourTexasMGP, has promoted the race in Austin in recent years and he believed he had a ten-year agreement with COTA and Dorna.
“I have given more than 25 years of my life to MotoGP – Schwantz said – and four of these years I dedicated to bringing the world championship to Texas, my home state. The result of my work led to the agreement between COTA and Dorna in 2011. I'm sorry to say this but COTA is now illegally trying to exclude me from the project. I think the Austin track owners are committing fraud by doing this. Therefore I took legal action against them today. I had to do it to defend my rights, my reputation and MotoGP itself. I want to see MotoGP race in Texas, but I can't let COTA exploit me. And more importantly, I can't sit idle while the latest arrival in racing risks ruining the sport I love".

COTA responded to Schwantz in an official statement: “Mr. Schwantz's request to take legal action makes no sense. It was Dorna itself who told us that he has no contract to organize a MotoGP race in Texas. To be clear, Mr. Schwantz has no contract to host a race at our track or any other Texas track. That's why he reacted like this, without any embarrassment, making false claims to the court and the media. We only know that people want to see a MotoGP race on our track and we are doing everything we can to make this dream come true."
