Michele Pirro's first race as a wild car ended with a good eighth place, having gone from Gresini team driver to Ducati test rider. For him, a race he faced in pursuit of Bautista and Dovizioso, until the deterioration of the rear tire forced him to give up his attempt to catch up. He has the microphone.

“It was the first race of the season and it wasn't easy, because the temperature was really high. I got away quite well and I could see Dovizioso and Espargaro just in front of me. I tried to stay close to Espargarò with the aim of closing on Dovizioso. Towards the middle of the race I started to feel the rear tire slipping and I was barely able to close the entire gap. For us, this race represents the first real test bench, even if this circuit is not very favorable for our bike, but the data acquired will allow us to work to improve further. I thank Ducati for the opportunity it has given me and all the guys on the team for their great work, the Gruppo Sportivo Fiamme Oro and all my friends for their precious support."
