Andrea Dovizioso kept the Ducati colors high in the Spanish Grand Prix. The former Honda and Yamaha rider from Forlì gritted his teeth, taking home a good fifth place, even if the gap to the leaders remains large. His start was lightning fast and his defense of fifth place was also good, attacked by Bautista, Espargarò and Smith. The word is up to him.

“I made a good start, it hadn't happened to me in a while. It was a great feeling to take the lead into the first corner. The gap to the leaders remains large, but at the end of the race I managed to manage a difficult situation with Bautista and Espargaro. We passed it several times, we were quite close because there was no grip left. Fifth position here in Jerez is very important for me, we are always fourth in the championship, it's not a bad start."

Even if the Ducati's great engine (at least it seemed like that to me) helped him, I have to say a good job for Dovizioso, a good race, solid, without mistakes.

I don't know how to judge the Ducati performance...

The best Ducati gets more than a second per lap, despite the benefits, the others down or with problems.

I repeat, in my opinion more shadows than lights.

In the fight with Aleix he was saved only by his great engine, in the driving there was no story...

Despite the benefits? But is the open (or Factory 2) easier? I knew that they have 2 liters more petrol, more engines per season, soft tyres, but they don't have harder tires and they have the approved simplified electronic control unit.
I don't know about other restrictions or concessions, I certainly don't know anything else but at the end of the waltz everything should be balanced or almost balanced (truly balancing such a mess is impossible).

The control unit was practically developed by Ducati together with MM, the same software.

The soft tires allow him to start further up the grid, which is a great advantage, given that it avoids as much traffic as possible at the start.

They can use more horses throughout the race.

        These are important benefits.

In my opinion there are improvements even if they are not constant. The concessions are almost canceled out in the race. Last year the best Ducati was that of Hayden who took 26 seconds from Pedrosa, while Dovizioso took 42 seconds! Considering that Dovizioso is not comfortable on this track, the result is acceptable. Perhaps Hayden could have done better with the Ducati in this GP, also given the good 11th he achieved with the less performing Honda open.
