MotoGP 2015 Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix FP2 – Jorge Lorenzo confirmed the best time achieved in the morning session in Free Practice 2 in Indianapolis.

The two-time MotoGP world champion stopped the clock at a time of 1:32.860, beating his compatriot and reigning Honda champion Marc Marquez by just 3 thousandths.

Ducati did very well, placing Andrea Dovizioso in third and Andrea Iannone in fourth position. The rider from Forlì is 0.295s off the top, while Iannone is just 11 thousandths behind Dovizioso.

An excellent start for the Borgo Panigale company, which after difficult last few races, started off on the right foot in the US trip. The first three classified are the same as in Free Practice 1.

World championship leader Valentino Rossi is in difficulty, only tenth, 0.672s behind team-mate Jorge Lorenzo. The seven-time world champion of the Top Class is preceded by the Honda of Cal Crutchlow, by the Yamaha of Pol Espargarò (victim of a bad high-side which fortunately resolved without physical consequences) by the Hondas of Dani Pedrosa and Scott Redding and by the Yamaha of Bradley Smith.

Danilo Petrucci from Terni makes up ground compared to FP1, eleventh and ahead of team-mate Yonny Hernandez. The two Team Pramac Ducati riders precede the Suzuki of Maverick Vinales and the Ducati Open of Hector Barberà.

Aprilia, which here also fields the newly arrived Stefan Bradl, placed the German in twentieth position, ahead of the ART of Iodaracing of San Marino Alex de Angelis, while Alvaro Bautista is twenty-second.

Rossi is really in a bad way, for now.
Even if he does a super mega qualifying which given the trend he won't do, he will be sixth, in reality he will probably sail around the eighth tenth position.

What should worry everyone is that Lorenzo and Marquez did the time with DURA front and rear, therefore not really a qualifying setup, on the rear actually...

Despite using the Soft, Rossi gained a little something in T1, like 30 thousandths, compared to the Hard, but he practically gained nothing in T2 which really hurts compared to Lorenzo and Marquez, in T3 he recovered something, but still using the Medium and not the hard, because even there it was as bad as in T2, and again in T4 he lost another 2 tenths using the average, which didn't even give him an advantage in traction from the last corner.

He also loses a lot of speed compared to Jorge on the straight in the flying lap in the qualifying version, despite Rossi using the softer tire (the Medium) he went 6km/h less than Lorenzo.

I think they have to change the setting of the bike a lot if they want to improve, because they really lose a lot, especially in terms of pace, they are one second per lap behind Lorenzo and Marquez.

In my opinion Marquez is also faster than Lorenzo and even more consistent, and it seems to me that he didn't even use a tire as new as Jorge's on the rear to set the time.

Furthermore, they are both saving medium tyres, because they did their time with the Dura on the rear.

The battle will be Marquez Jorge, they are too fast compared to everyone else.

n75 do you mean with Marquez and Lorenzo???

From what he has done so far, Pedrosa doesn't seem to have the pace to stay with them, and perhaps not even to qualify third. He can aim for third place and with a rocket start, think of holding the train for a while if no one disturbs him from behind, but if Lorenzo forces himself, I don't think he has a chance.

In my opinion, if Jorge doesn't set a super time on the first lap and in the following ones and doesn't leave Marquez by 2 or 3 seconds, we will have a race similar to last year's, or to this year's Assen, with Lorenzo and Marquez in this case to make a gap, and then to slow down with Lorenzo who will no longer want to shoot and will give the pass to Marc like Rossi, unless he is sure that if he lets him pass, then he won't be able to attack him.

In any case, I see Marquez as more of a favourite, if he doesn't make mistakes, tactically he seems better placed, I don't think he'll do what he throws for the whole race, unless he's the one to make the gap.

It all depends on whether or not they spread out at the start, or whether everything goes smoothly, certainly with the Hard tires on the rear, if this is the choice for the race, I see Marquez as the more favourite.

Already yesterday, from FP1 to FP2, the Yamahas seem to have fine-tuned the traction control a lot for the start with the anti-wheelie, I don't know about Honda, but I think they're in good shape too.

If they start with the Hards for the race, and the Ducatis will be around because they have the Softs in qualifying and the Mediums in the race, I don't rule out that they will intervene between Lorenzo and Marquez, and if Lorenzo gets swallowed up, then I see him in difficulty to overtake the Ducatis in the first laps, which will have softer tires than his.

Marquez, on the other hand, has good braking and a high speed on the straight, equal to that of the Ducatis, so I think he could overtake them when braking.

n75, ronnie already knows who wins. With his brilliant mind he has already deduced the winner based on the first 2 free practices. I don't know why he isn't already a millionaire..

I'm not a millionaire and I never will be because I don't bet, there are too many variables and I don't like playing with money. In any case these are forecasts and trends that you can evaluate if everything goes in a linear way, if there are no meteorological upheavals, if the drivers do not get discouraged, if they do not make mistakes, if they do not make mistakes with the team in the settings, if they have not reliability issues, if they don't have tire problems.

Perhaps there are other variables that I have excluded, however if everything goes smoothly, as has often happened especially for Rossi and Lorenzo this year, I would almost say more about Rossi, if they are "lucky" so to speak.

Marquez is the favourite, Lorenzo is just behind him, and Pedrosa is third.

And consider that you actually want, fortunately, because the data you have available and the images you can look at allow you to make evaluations of this type. And expectations are often met not because those who look from the outside like me are good at making predictions, but simply because they are so professionals and so good at their job that they maintain an amazing consistency in the results and have so little time to fine-tune everything. , which is then difficult to recover for those who start off on the wrong foot or who get lost along the way.

This is why today after FP3, FP4 and qualifying the values are still those at the end of FP2, some improved more, some less but they are still Marquez Lorenzo Pedrosa and Valentino, who however will start further back than the 3 Spaniards and therefore things they become more complicated in view of the race.
