MotoGP GP Germany Preview – The MotoGP riders return to the track for the ninth round of 2018, next stop: Sachsenring for the German Grand Prix.

After the victory in the Assen GP, Marc Marquez's lead in the standings has grown further. The first of his pursuers, Valentino Rossi, is at 41 points and in the next Grand Prix the Spaniard's advantage could grow further. On the German track the world championship leader has never lost, perhaps due to the many left turns, his strong point, or due to the characteristics of the circuit which seem to adapt well to his bike, in any case here he fears no rivals. Last year the only one who tried to interrupt the trail of positive results was Jonas Folger who tried to fight but in the end had to surrender to the excessive power of #93. This year, since the German isn't there, unless there are incredible surprises, the race could just be a formality.

Obviously the championship isn't over and Ducati and Yamaha will try to make up ground, but neither bike shone on this track last year. Andrea Dovizioso and Jorge Lorenzo's GP18 has grown compared to last season, but the limits of the bike on this type of track could once again make themselves felt. It will therefore be interesting to see if Ducati has managed to resolve, at least in part, the historical problems and perhaps aim for a second part of the season with a comeback.

Things are no better at Yamaha. The M1 hasn't won for a year now and both Maverick Vinales and Valentino Rossi had several problems on this track last year. Of course, the podiums in the last few races could suggest a bike that is growing, but in reality there are no big changes compared to the start of the European races. What probably makes the difference is the 'hunger' of the two riders. The much-desired electronics updates are only planned for the Brno test, during the summer break. There is therefore still some suffering to be done and, as for Ducati, aiming for a second part of the season with a comeback.

German GP weather

At the moment the weather forecast indicates a low possibility of rain for the first day of free practice, while, for the moment, sun is forecast for Saturday, as well as for Sunday

Info German GP

The German Grand Prix is one of the historic stages of the MotoGP, which before arriving on the Sachsenring track built in 1996, was contested on the rough roads of Chemnitz. The Sachsenring circuit officially entered the calendar in 1998, and over the years it has undergone numerous changes, up until the one in 2001 which literally revolutionized the circuit. The track measures 3.7 km, and has 10 left turns and only 3 right turns. On the German track the Respol team's Hondas have been winning for 8 years, with Pedrosa on the top step of the podium from 2010 to 2012, and Marquez who has literally dominated the last 5 years, taking all the poles and all the victories.
