Excellent performance by rookie Franco Morbidelli, seventh with the Honda Marc VDS
MotoGP Italian GP Free Practice 1 – The MotoGP class riders took to the track at Mugello for the first free practice session of the Italian Grand Prix under overcast skies and a temperature of 22.1° in the air and 30° on the asphalt.
The fastest of these Free Practice 1 was Andrea Iannone, who stopped the clock on his Suzuki at a time of 1:47.253.
The rider from Vasto, who yesterday announced that he will leave the Hamamatsu manufacturer's bike at the end of the year, put the Ducatis of Michele Pirro (present as a wild card) and Andrea Dovizioso behind him, trailing by 0.550s and 0.708s respectively.
Fourth time for the Yamaha of Maverick Vinales, who crashed at the beginning of the session, who preceded the Ducati GP17 of Jack Miller and the Hondas of championship leader Marc Marquez and rookie Franco Morbidelli.
Valentino Rossi is eighth, almost a second from the top, exactly 0.965s. Jorge Lorenzo's Ducati and Cal Crutchlow's Honda close out the Top Ten.
Danilo Petrucci, Ducati Pramac is thirteenth, ahead of the Espargarò brothers, Aleix (Aprilia) and Pol (KTM). Dani Pedrosa is in difficulty, only seventeenth.
Honda "showed off" a new tail, which you can see in the photo.
